PICS UPDATE!! I didn't really want to post pics up since... well... how do you condense 334 pics for a place like xanga??? But I figured I'd do it anyway to give y'all a little taste of my trip. I wish I could figure out how to post video too, but that takes too long. Ahh so hard to choose pics.. but these ones entail some of my favorites. ... you know, they evoke the fondest memories. ... shut up. enjoY! OHH and I'll put up some new music up for my next post. It slows the pics down.
^ The menu image I used for my Photo/Video DVD slideshow. Me and my "mommy" (mom's brother's wife). "My trip to Pakistan. November 27-December 25, 2004." And that's my name down there in the corner.
^ Boeing 747. Chicago to Manchester, UK; then to Karachi, Pakistan. Looks much smaller in picture, right?
^ Ahhh... what a wonderful 22 hour flight. Don't you hate it when a whole DAY gets taken away from you like that?
KARACHI
^ View from my aunt's balcony.
 ^ And another...
^ Hill Park stroll after sunset.
^ Karachi's most famous medical school: Aga Khan University.
^ An outside shot of the university.
 ^ I found this amusing.
^ And this even more amusing...
FAISALABAD
^ "Osmaan Milk Shop." =) I pretty much took a picture everytime I saw my name on anything. IT DOESN'T EVER HAPPEN HERE IN THE US!!
^ Me and my cousin Zainab.
^ My cousin Amara and one of her lil ones.
^ The outside of our family store (grandfather and mom's brothers all work here together). Brought back about 20 outfits for the ladies in my family (aka my mom and 2 sisters) all hand made!
^ A local mosque from the view of a taxi (which by the way ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere.... jeez that happened twice to me while I was there!!).
^ Your average groom on a horse. One of the 8 weddings we went to. We got there at about 1:07am and the food hadn't even been served yet!
^ This is the groom's Mehndi (bride is not here tonight).
^ Can you tell this means they had just announced that the Chai (tea) was ready???
^ That's me leaving Faisalabad (I'm taking the pic)... all the mommies saying goodbye. Definitely miss that city the most. The majority of the cousins are there.
GUJRANWALA
^ My cousin Saba. Stopped here on the way to Rawalpindi to see one of my mom's sisters. All in all, 6 sisters and 5 brothers on my mom's side, my mom the eldest. There's always someone in each and every city to see.
RAWALPINDI
^ My cousin Tayyab and I... uh.. I think trying to dance out of the moonroof of our car on the way to Rawalpindi. A local police officer drove by and waved at us and told us we had good taste in music hehehe.
^ Me, my cousins Bilal and Amna on the way to another Khala (mom's sister)'s house.
^Me, and my cousins Sundas, Sunila and Tayyab.
 ^A buncha cousins.
^ My Khala Zobia telling me to take pics of her new house to show my mom. She and my mom are exactly 20 years apart (two years older than my oldest sister Ayesha)!!!
^ My Khala Yasmeen's house. Me and my cousin Sunila.
ISLAMABAD
^ Here we are at the beautiful Faisal Masjid in the heart of Pakistan's capital.
^ A few of us cousins inside the mosque complex.
MURREE (Northern Pakistan)
^ Standing infront of some hills and glaciers.
^ Gotta love those monkeys. Once in the car my cousin Sunila had a muffin in her hand.. the window next to her was half way down.. and this monkey jumps and climbs up ontop.. and I screamed. ...the end.
LAHORE
 ^ The stunning Badshahi Mosque.
 ^ A closer view.
^ Shah-e-Qila in front of the Mosque with Pakistan's flag.
^ We checked out the main border between Pakistan and India (if you've seen Veer Zaara.. a scene was filmed there). I circled the gate of India so you can see.
 ^ Me and the officials.
 ^ Hehehhe.
^ The McDonald's there were incredible. Three floors high. Private dining areas. They even DELIVER!! But I didn't like this one because as soon as I began to give my order the cashier looked at me and asked me if I was American. I think it really is that obvious.
 ^ Another wedddddddding.
 ^ Don't I look nice.
Back in KARACHI
^ All the stuff I had to leave behind in Pakistan to make room for the new stuff to go back with me. In that blue bag are all of the sweaters I took for when we went to Northern Pak. Isn't it ironic that I need that stuff more than anything NOW and no one will ever make ANY use of it in 90 degree Karachi weather?? Still a little bitter ... Ah well...
^ On the way back home. I was able to sneak back quite a bit of goods (lots and lots of food/sweets, and a tonnnn of DVSs)!! All in all, after a really long 8 years, I had an amazing trip and don't think I could have spent my 6 weeks of break any better. It's funny.. my last few dreams have been literally "conducted" (I guess that'd be the word) entirely in Urdu. I now think in Urdu. I count in Urdu. I almost answered a teacher of mine in Urdu the other day in classsss..... ohhhh Pakistan how I miss you so. I wish I could show my full album and video footage to you all... but this will have to suffice. Soon all pics at least should be on Ofoto or something like that. Hope you enjoyyyyyyyyyed!!! |
